What is Applied Arts?

Applied Arts is a practical implementation of arts and design principles. It is a creative form of design that expresses technical skills. Applied arts is concerned with making objects with functional purpose for which esthetic, ergonomic concerns are significant. Applied Arts can be defined by purposeful creative interpretation of limitless concepts. Commercial arts is considered a branch of Applied Arts. Applied Arts embraces study of interior designing, architecture, product design, graphic design, web design, photography, advertising and more. Whereas Fine Arts is an artistic expression which may not address any definite purpose, as quoted by Aristotle In Fine Arts the end purpose of the product is the product itself and includes subjects as drawing, sketching, painting et al.

1. Its purpose is to create a functional product with Aesthetic and ergonomic significant. 1. Its purpose is to create an aesthetic object that Is appreciated for its fine and unique qualities.
2. Applied Arts is intended to be an aesthetic approach where objects are designed to be created in order to be used rather than to be simply viewed. 2. Fine arts is intended to create beauty & Pleasure while simply looking at the object.
3. Applied Arts is a concentration within the visual arts field that includes such areas as interior design, visual merchandising, photography and more. 3. The Fine Arts is a categorization of the 5 different Disciplines: Literature, Drama, Painting,Sculpture and Music.

Course Content:

1. Principles of Design.

Subject Objective:
The principles of Design describe the ways how a designer uses the elements of art to design an object. In this subject students learn the building blocks of art such as line, shape, colour, value, form, textureand space. The principles of design are balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm and unity/variety.

  • Balance and Harmonization in design.

2. Colour Code and Palette.

Subject Objective:
Here in the students will learn about the concept of colour theory, colour wheel and colour harmony which will enhance their creativity in using a wider spectrum of the colour palette in terms of colour matching and colour coordination techniques through visual and practical exercises.

  • Types of colour -pencil, paint, acrylic.

  • 3. Photoshop.

    Subject Objective:
    The fundamentals of the Photoshop Software will be taught to the students. It is amongst the most popular software used by graphic designers, artists and photographers. It is used to edit, filter and improve any digital picture to enhance its overall look.It is also used to crop, resize and colour correct the digital images.

    • Introduction to Photoshop.
    • Getting started with layers.
    • Selection tools.
    • Creative layers style.
    • Working on smart objects.
    • Understanding hue, saturation, contrast and brightness.
    • Improvising photographs.
    • How to apply shadow & lights in Photoshop.

    4. Graphic Design.

    Subject Objective:
    Graphic design is the process of visual communication and problem solving through the use of typography, photography and illustration. This field is considered a subset of visual communication and communication design. In this subject students will be able to create and combine symbols, images and text to form visual representation of ideas and messages using either a computer software or their manual skills.

    Subject Objective:
    Advertising is a means of communication with users of a product or service. In this subject students will able to learn techniques and strategies of presentation in a broad range of advertising verticals across various mediums of advertisement.

    • Creating effective writing and display Ads.
    • Content writing in Advertisement.
    • Advertising Theory.
    • Consumer Psychology.

    6. Digital Marketing.

    Subject Objective:

With our digital marketing module combined with our experienced faculty, Students will learn to utilise the power of the internet to create and promote their brand and grow their business. At the end of the course they will have their expertise to Design, Create and Promote their content on the Digital Platform.

    Subject Objective:
    Building up a career in the world of digital photography with new techniques and equipment, phones and photography apps is much in practice nowadays. The students will get hands on technical training in using the most simplest to the most advanced gadgets to become a proficient photographer. Everyone uses Smart phones and as a part of this subject, the students will also be taught as to how they can use their mobile phones to click, edit and filter the pictures and use them digitally on the different Social Media Platforms.

    Portfolio is a collection of records that reflect the accomplishments, skills, experiences and attributes of an individual. The students will learnhow to make their portfolio and resume which will highlight and showcase samples of their best work, along with lifelong experiences, values and achievements.

    9. Specialization.

    At the end of the semester, the students opt for any one of the following Specialization project for their portfolio.

    • Brand Identity Design.
    The Students will have to design and create a hypothetical brand in Visual Arts. The final submission will include the following must haves :

    Visiting card.
    Letter head.
    Company Prospectus.

    • Digital Marketing.
    Students will have to create a Website for their own hypothetical brand in Digital Marketing. The final submission will include the following must haves :

    Website landing page.
    Social media promotion.
    Content effective writing.
    Promote it to Google AdWords.
    Create a blog.
